Tips for Maintaining Your Curriculum Vitae (CV)

Tips for Maintaining Your Curriculum Vitae (CV)

Credentialing for anesthesia professionals can take up to three months to complete, and even longer if you are missing documents, dates, or other important information. Maintaining a current curriculum vitae (CV) is one of the best ways to make the credentialing process more seamless, and ultimately improving your chances of securing the locum tenens or permanent positions you are most interested in.

The format of your CV doesn’t have to be fancy; it just needs to be clear, concise, and easy to read. Your goal is for someone to be able to skim your CV in 30 seconds and want to know more about you, so keep it to a length of two pages maximum, in 10- to 12-point font. If you are struggling to pare down your CV, you can do what some providers prefer and maintain both a succinct CV and a more detailed work history.

Our team at Radar Healthcare Providers has gathered a list of essential elements to include in a CV that will give recruiters and facility administrators an accurate overview of your skills and experience.

  • Personal information: Full name with abbreviated certifications (CRNA, MSN) and contact information (phone number, mailing address, and email address)
  • Education: All degrees, with the most recent at the top, including start and end dates (month/year) and exact graduation dates
  • State licenses and certifications: All licenses (with license numbers and expiration dates) and board certifications, with date of issue and recertification and expiration dates
  • Professional experience and references: Each of your anesthesia positions, starting from your most recent, including: facility name, job title, position type (locum tenens or permanent), start and end dates, and supervisor name
  • Professional references: A minimum of 3 references from positions from the last 2 years, including their name, title, phone number, and email address
  • Memberships and associations: Professional organizations you belong to, with membership dates (American Nurses Association, American Association of Nurse Anesthetists, etc.)

Remember that small details matter. Make sure you double-check specifics like start and end dates and reference contact information. Update your CV at least once a year to make credentialing as smooth and painless as possible.
